QUESTION
Is the art of jyotish also cognized? The stars that form a constellation may not be the same light-years away. How would the rishis know that certain constellations have significant impacts on a person?
ANSWER
The entire universe is contained within every point in creation. Perhaps thinking of a hologram will help you get a feeling for that. So contained within every individual is all knowledge of the entire universe and how it is all interconnected. That knowledge is called “Jyotish,” and it is cognized.
Cognition was done by the Rishis by bringing their awareness to the depth of their being (that place that is one with everything) and allowing the knowledge contained there to well up through their physiologies. Cognition is not an analysis or a thought process. It is a physiological process similar to using your physiology like a phonograph. The knowledge contained in the recording wells up through the phonograph and out the speakers. It’s not a thought process that the phonograph is going through. Rather, it is a mechanical or physiological process.
Where the stars are and what the constellations look like at various locations is all taken into account in the cognition. Again, total knowledge of that entire structure is contained within the depth of existence, the Veda, the essence of your being.
In and of themselves, the planets and constellations don’t have an impact in the way people think of it. The whole thing is interconnected. The planets and constellations exist within you. It is simply the monitoring of those planets and constellations that reflects like a mirror image, the dynamic that is going on within you, around you, and throughout the entire universe.

Vastu, the study of space, is the study of consciousness.
One side of a coin births the other.
Consciousness births space.
Space births separation.
Separation births duality.
Duality births multiplicity.
And so the universe is born.

It has been a very busy summer here at Mount Soma. Immediately after the Surya Ram Class and Summer Retreat we focused on organization and planning for future construction.
Our Vedic Architect (Sthapati), SK, left Mount Soma just this morning. Having him here for the planning was wonderful. His knowledge is really great and extensive. In upcoming classes, I plan to go into more detail regarding Vastu, Enlightened City and Temple design. It is incredibly profound and exciting.
The deep friendship and camaraderie I feel with SK is exquisite. We both thrill over sharing knowledge with one and other. He so clearly delights in my discussions comparing the precision of Vastu with that of a computer. It must be done precisely right or the power is greatly diminished. In fact, in the case of temple construction, a lack of precision could even cause undesirable influences. SK said, and I whole-heartedly agree, that to be part of what we are creating here at Mount Soma is a life extremely well spent.
Now, with Shravan Maas, August 15 to September 12, we will be enjoying a most auspicious time here at Mount Soma.

I was asked the following:
Is it good for us to know our future (by means of Jyotish shastra) horoscope? If yes, what is the point in knowing the future when everything is pre-determined by Karma. Won’t an Individual be upset if astrology predicts he will not live after a certain period (in near future).
To which I respond:
Jyotish is a map of your karma. At the depth of your being (the level of the Transcendent, the Divine) you are beyond karma. When you act from that level, you are infinitely free. Yet jyotish does always give a forecast of the upcoming ‘weather’ on the surface of life. For example, it is good to know if it is going to rain, so you can carry an umbrella. Fight your karma with everything you have! The best way to fight it is to evolve. Proper meditation is the most powerful tool. Learn the Surya Meditation on this website and then learn the Surya Ram meditation. It is the best.
Karma will certainly play out, but it can be taken to a different level. For example, karma may be that an accident will occur, but as you evolve, the accident will (instead of being major) be something as simple as stubbing your toe. Of course, visiting the temple, havans, pujas, etc. help with this. The question of free will versus predetermination is something I discuss in length in my lectures and writings.
Generally speaking, Westerners think they have more free will than they do. Easterners think they have less free will than they do. As you evolve, you come to know that you and God are one. At that point, your will and God’s will are one. Then there is no question of free will versus predetermination. God’s will comes in two forms: 1) the laws of karma governing this world of God’s creation and 2) infinite freedom. So, for the enlightened, free will and predetermination are the same thing. There is no difference.
In the state of enlightenment, you have no karma. However, you have entered the world of karma, generally out of compassion for the world. What is perceived to be your karma, is the world’s karma revolving around you and your life… much as the planets revolve around the sun.
One final point: Many think of karma as something outside of themselves that affects them. That is not the complete truth. Most of your karma is between your ears and in your heart. Most of your karma comes in the form of what you think and how you feel. Thusly, you create your own world.

Everything maps on to everything else. Why? Because everything is the Unified Field, i.e. in spiritual terms, everything is One. If you are the unified field and a tennis ball is the unified field, then it follows that you are the tennis ball. Again in spiritual terms… it is all God. Everything is one with God. In mathematical terms this is called ‘mapping.’ Everything maps on to everything else. For example, in reflexology, the foot maps on to the rest of the body. The big toe is the head, the heel is the pelvis, etc. Some mappings are rather direct as in reflexology. Others are very abstract, like how the arrangement of tea leaves in a cup maps on to your future. The mappings are valid. Whether or not anyone can read them accurately is quite another matter.
Jyotish (astrology) is a mapping. The question is, “Can anyone accurately read that mapping?” The current world situation does map on to the planets (and everything else), but can it be read? I understand the ancient Mayans paid particular attention to the location of the rising Venus…. similar to the rising sun’s equinox and solstice. I understand that the Venus cycle is much longer than the sun’s. This is one factor. There are many alignments of objects like planets, as well as points like Rahu and Ketu, that come into such calculations.
Again, the validity of mapping is certain. Everything comes out of and is, in essence, the same one thing. The question is, “Can anyone read those mappings.”
I have experienced many incredible things in my life. To my experience, the best jyotishis (jyotish practitioners) do not even look at the charts. They just know. They are called Seers… Rishis. Also, to my experience, they do not share all of what they know with the world at large. What would be the point? When the Master speaks, it immediately ceases to be what the Master said and becomes what the listener heard. With a finger on that pulse, the Master says what he says. The Master who is also a Teacher pushes that envelope in the desire to help humanity. However, few Masters are also Teachers. Most avoid the world at large.
